If you ever wondered what ski resorts in the United States would win in a popularity contest, this list is for you. Holidu, which is a vacation rental search engine website, figured out what the most popular resorts in the U.S. were. They did this by studying the monthly global search volume on Google. Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado came out on top of the global search volume, while they ranked Brian Head Resort as the most affordable.

The map that they did for the rankings though is pretty bad, as it put places like Crystal Mountain in Arkansas, and Arapahoe Basin on the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania. I’m also curious about the methodology process, as even though they’re near huge metropolitan centers, I have a hard time seeing ski resorts like Hunter Mountain getting more searches than snowier destinations.

Interesting fact: Smugglers’ Notch is not in Indiana

The top ten ski resorts are ranked below, and it should be noted that were two ties on this portion of the list.

9. Snowbird & Mount Snow

7. Heavenly & Vail

6. Big Sky Resort

5. Hunter Mountain

4. Breckenridge

3. Palisades Tahoe

2. Crystal Mountain

1. Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain Resort has been taking a victory lap due to its top ranking. 9News traveled to Copper Mountain to talk with them about being on top of the list.

I’m not sure why they interviewed a donut shop at the base of Copper Mountain in the video, but it does give me an idea of where I should grab a bite to eat when I visit Copper next week.
