High winds slammed Utah’s Wasatch mountains this week with sustained speeds over 80mph and gusts exceeding 115mph.
Solitude Mountain Resort, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, shared the photo below yesterday morning of the Eagle Express Chairlift.
The wind was so strong that it sent a tree collapsing into the haul rope.
The chairlift had a delayed opening yesterday morning (12/22/22), but it appears that the situation has been remedied.
Solitude’s mountain report this morning shows that all 8 chairlifts are expected to run.
Let this photo, and the video of a chair falling at Breckenridge yesterday, serve as friendly reminders as to why wind holds are so important.
Stay safe out there, friends.
