I’d like to start this short article by thanking the good folks over on the Palisades Tahoe Mountain Ops Team.
They opted for transparency, rather than secrecy, when a small avalanche was triggered at the resort yesterday afternoon.
Here are the full details about the slide:
We were performing control work on KT-22 and there was a slide. We held skiers/riders at Time Square Rock and the slide was longer than expected and crossed the Mountain Run. No guests or employees were in the area. We are working to get that terrain re-opened in the next 20 min.

It’s pretty damn refreshing to see a major ski resort communicate with their followers about conditions on the mountain rather than attempt to cover them up.
Look, accidents happen, especially when it comes to avalanche control work.
I would prefer that a ski resort own up to an incident rather than actively work to to suppress information from reaching the public like Whistler did last season.
^Approximate location of avalanche.
I hope that Palisades Tahoe keeps up the good work and that other ski resorts across the country follow suit. 👏
11:25 AM ET UPDATE: Two photos of the slide were submitted by one of our readers who has asked to remain anonymous. Check them out.
Looks like it was a fairly decent size:
