Wildcat Mountain was aiming to open today, November 18th, but the ski area’s General Manager JD Crichton has announced that the ski area isn’t “…going to hit that target.”
Wildcat, which was purchased by Vail Resorts in 2019, has been the center of criticism amongst Epic Pass holders over the last two seasons.
Most notably, the mountain was lambasted for a lack of open terrain and long lift lines last holiday season.
It seems as if the video below is an attempt to create transparency between Wildcat management and their pass holders.
They have a long way to go to mend the damage done over the last couple of seasons, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

“Sometimes, hard work just isn’t enough if the weather doesn’t play its part. We tried, until the last possible minute (seriously!), to open for tomorrow but we aren’t going to hit that target.
Our teams are hard at work, temperatures ❄️ are now cooperating and we are full speed ahead to open soon! In the past week, our team has been making snow on Upper Catapult, Middle Wildcat and Bobcat. We couldn’t be more proud of our team’s efforts 😎.
We want to get open and stay open, and with a few more days of snowmaking, we will have better snow coverage on more terrain, and surfaces that are more resilient to the Wildcat weather we are known for. We will announce our new target opening by next Tuesday at the latest.
