The Killington Cup has become an unofficial start of the season for east coast skiers and riders.
Holding a World Cup event in Vermont in November was considered aggressive and ill-advised at one point, but the competition has become tradition for thousands to flock to Killington Thanksgiving Weekend to see the world’s best female slalom and giant slalom skiers.
Killington is known for their world-class snowmaking, but the outlook for this year’s competition was looking dismal. Just over a week ago I posed the question- Will Killington Have Enough Snow For The World Cup?
At the time, there wasn’t an ounce of accumulated snow on Superstar, and the forecast was calling for warm temps.
What I forgot to take into account is that Killington’s snowmakers are such beasts that they really only need a couple of days worth of favorable temps to completely cover the trail.
Take a look at what Superstar looks like now on Killington’s webcam:
Killington surely has more to snow to make for the trail to be ready for Thanksgiving weekend, but colder temps will sweep across the region next week that should give them ample snowmaking time.
You gotta hand it to the snowmakers at Killington. They deserve their crown as The Beast of the East. Beasts they certainly are.
