Colorado skiers and snowboarders enjoyed the first lift-serviced turns of the season when Arapahoe Basin Ski Area opened yesterday, October 23rd.

A Basin doesn’t have a particularly large snowmaking operation considering the ski area’s high altitude and plentiful natural snowfall, but they rely on the manmade stuff to get the season rolling in mid-to-late October.

A Basin’s popular Sustainability Sunday series featured an episode on the ski area’s sustainable snowmaking system, which coincided perfectly with yesterday’s opening day.
