Scary moment for a pair of trail runners out on Pipeline Trail in Millcreek Canyon Sunday morning as the turned a corner and encountered a mountain lion in the path.
Startled, they began to back away from the cat. The mountain leapt at one of the runners who fell backwards. It’s claws punctured her right leg. The second runner hit the mountain lion with a rock and they were able to escape without further injury. The lion left the trail and did not pursue the runners.
The mountain lion was deemed as dangerous and was euthanized by wildlife officers after tracking it using dogs from the point on the trail where the attack happened.
