Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont will be getting a needed upgrade this offseason. The new Sunrise lift, which will be replacing the Mountain Triple, is a high-speed six-pack chairlift that is being supplied by Doppelmayr. Along with the added capacity and speed improvements, the lift’s base terminal will be set next to the Mansfield Lodge, reducing the need to climb the infamous staircase to the former Mountain Triple.

In their first construction update, which was posted last week, they had begun taking down the old Mountain Triple and announced an auction of the old chairs(which took place last week). This week’s update showed the first of three helicopter days being done on the mountain. This helicopter day focused on removing the old towers. The next two helicopter days will focus on pouring the concrete into the new lift towers, and then putting the forthcoming lift towers in place. The Sunrise lift is expected to open during the 2022-23 season. Whether this will improve the guest experience at Stowe is debatable though, as the goodwill in adding capacity to the main portion of the mountain has probably been lost with the introduction of paid parking on weekends and holidays.
