A freak late season snow storm dumped more than a foot of snow at high elevations across Utah’s Wasatch mountains over Memorial Day Weekend.

While folks down in Salt Lake City were grilling out and celebrating the unofficial start of summer, the skiing and splitboarding diehards were slapping on skins to earn their turns at Alta Ski Area.

What a weird season…

The video below comes from our friend The Daily Pow (@thedailypow).

He described the conditions as “Nowhere near blower…” but it looks pretty damn good for the last couple days of May! I doubt anybody was complaining.

The Daily Pow: “The locals were hungry today. It’s not often it snows 16″ in late May. As a result Alta saw bigger crowds than I’ve ever seen post season. A long train of skiers funneled up the mountain from morning till afternoon. The skiing couldn’t have been better. Nowhere near blower pow but absolutely incredible for close to June!”
