Enjoy this historic look back at an Antarctic vehicle that is downright adorable. The Mini-Trac was built for a 1965 expedition to Antarctica by an Australian research team. The man behind the design, Terry O’Hare, actually helped build many of the whacky vehicles featured in the original Mad Max movie (filmed in Australia).

The Mini-Trac was essentially a stock Mini (Mark 1) with the obvious modification of tank style tracks to traverse the snowy landscape skid-steer style. The Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition took it on their trip to the frozen continent but it proved too unreliable for practical application. It was later used in the Victorian Alps of Australia and has since disappeared. Really enjoyed this video, hope you do too:
