The Freeride World Tour went off with a bang at Kicking Horse over the weekend. Swedish skier Max Palm, who has burst onto the scene this season as a rookie, stole the show. Palm ended up taking 2nd place, but his effortless double backflip was my favorite air trick of the competition.

For context, Palm landed the first ever double backflip in Freeride World Tour history earlier this season, and then landed another one in the competition at Kicking Horse.

He’s literally changing the freeriding game one competition at a time.

Check out the crazy clip below:

Palm currently sits in 2nd place in the overall standings just barely behind Swiss skier Maxime Chabloz.

Chabloz is a FWT rookie as well, and took 1st at Kicking Horse for landing an insane Cork 7 and Backflip during his blistering fast winning run.

The newcomers on the Freeride World Tour have been so much fun to watch.

The competition has felt a little bit stale in recent years, but the fresh faces, and new tricks, are revitalizing my interest in the comp. I hope these young guns keep pushing what’s possible. If so, we’re in for a real treat over the coming years!
