“This is the epitome of peak season conditions up here. The mountain is fully open we’ve had close to 50 inches of snow in the month of January. So, its uh, you know, they say get it while the ‘getting’s’ good, the time is now.'”– Shawn Cassel, Marketing Director of Snowshoe Mountain Resort

Some great news out of West Virginia, as Snowshoe Mountain Resort is mostly open after a slow start to their season. Thanks to snowmaking and grooming efforts, along with fifty inches of snow in January, the mountain currently has sixty-one trails, both of their terrain parks, and twelve lifts now open. Looking through their snow report, the only trail they have closed right now is the Sawmill Glades. According to CBS Fox 59, getting to this point was not easy. Warm temperatures and rain in December led to a minimal amount of terrain open for the Holiday season. January has brought optimal snowmaking weather along with actual snow, leading to ski patrol to drop the ropes on the rarely open glades. The resort is planning on staying open until March 27th. We’ll see if the snow sticks around through with this strong rain and ice storm that they’re currently getting.
