“Feeling like I just came out of a human blender” -Tamo Campos
If you needed a quick reminder of the incredible destructive forces of avalanche, look no further than Beyond Boarding founder Tamo Campos’ account of a January 3rd avalanche on Hollyburn Mountain in BC where he got swept up by the slide, thrown into a tree and had his snowboard bindings ripped from his board. Campos suffered a fractured knee and shoulder but is thankful to be alive. To learn more about avalanche safety PLEASE GO HERE.

Well 2022 has started off with a bang or crack or whatever sound it makes when you get squished into a tree!!!

Definite dangerous conditions out there and was caught up thinking the big trees and a zone I’d ridden for 30 years would be safe. (1meter crown from a steeper zone about 40m’s across into tight trees) The slide swept me into a tree where my board was torn off and body compressed with all the heavy snow. Currently got fractured knee, shoulder and lower back pains from the crash. Feeling like I just came out of a human blender but also filled with gratitude for my good friend that was on the scene with first aid gear, the other group that came to help and North Shore Search and Rescue whom helped evacuate me from the area.

Time for some bed ridden healing time while catching up on work, unanswered emails and school while being cared for from my loving partner, family and friends.

Play safe out there everyone and be prepared before heading out into the backcountry. (and if you got the means don’t forget to donate to your local volunteer search and rescue. Those folks are heroes on your unexpected bad days!)
