I don’t know why, but I had no idea that mountain lions lived in the hills and mountains surrounding Los Angeles until very recently.
I guess I always associated LA with palm trees, beaches, celebrities, and overpriced sushi. Turns out that the mountains aren’t that far away, and mountain lions sometimes dip into residential neighborhoods in the surrounding suburbs and towns of the city.
The video below shows a family’s Pit Bull named Rocky chasing off a big mountain lion in La Verne, CA. Rocky charged the lion after he saw his owner come within feet of the big cat.
Rocky has some battle wounds from the fight, but he successfully defended his home from the big cat. What a boss!
