Samuel Adams New Beer So Strong It's Illegal in 15 States (28% Alcohol By Volume)

In an era when easy drinking session ales are all the rage Samuel Adams is going against the grain with their new limited edition Utopias brew which boasts an incredible 28% alcohol by volume, more than five times the potency of typical American beers.

WPVI reports the brewer releases a new version of its Utopias brand every two years, and the 12th edition is set to hit the shelves starting October 11th. Tough luck if you live in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont or West Virginia….the super potent beer is illegal in these states.

Even if you live in a place where Utopias is legal, it will be hard to come by with only 13,000 bottles to be released. Suggested retail price is $240 for 25.4-ounce bottle. That’s one pricey brewdog.
