We posted a quick documentary about the dying sport of squirt boating the other week that was received well by you, our readers.
The sport involves riding a light kayak meant to go underwater. It was a growing sport through the latter part of the 20th century. There are still a few squirt boaters today, but nothing compares to the craze that swept the river boating community in the late 80s and early 90s.
Check out this rad footage of some squirt boaters having a grand ol’ time on Salaach River, Austria in 1989.
Gotta love the bright mismatched colors, weird cylindrical helmets, grainy footage, and all-around radness. This video is the perfect time capsule to explain the squirt boating craze of yesteryear.
I like to imagine that these guys finished their day by lighting some devil’s lettuce around a campfire and enjoying one of the guys’ renditions of various Grateful Dead songs played on the banjo. Seems fitting, right?
