The Carolina Canoe Club hosts an annual event at Nantahala Falls on the Nantahala River that has kids ride pool floats through rapids, and it’s undeniably fun to watch.

Seems like it would be tons of fun to grab a spot on a rock and watch as kids try their best to ride an inflatable shamu over rocks and rushing water. I guess that’s probably why they’ve dubbed this event ‘Bad Idea Theatre’.

FastFredRuddock: “This is the annual running of the pool toys at the Nantahala Falls on the Nantahala River by kids of all ages. This event is also know as Bad Idea Theater. Safety is set and volunteers take turns throwing throw ropes at swimmers and even those still on or in pool floats. No one was injured but a few pool toys were. This is just one of the events during the Carolina Canoe Club’s Week of Rivers held every year on the week of the Fourth of July. Learn more or join at https://www.carolinacanoeclub.org/

The Nantahala River is one of the most popular destinations for paddlers of all skill levels in the American southeast. The river stretches 47.85 miles in western North Carolina near Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
