“The surrounding rock dates back 450 million years, the rock found on Mole Hill is just 48 million years old.”

Nice little geology lesson highlighting a little know extinct volcano in Virginia which produced the most recent volcanic eruption on the eastern half of the United States. Mole Hill stands 400 feet above the surrounding landscape and is approximately 47 million years old. You don’t have to worry about it erupting again but its cool to get a geologic perspective on the Shenandoah Valley and the greater Appalachians.
