“It’s always interesting to strap on skis in Oklahoma”

In the dry and flat state of Oklahoma, there are no ski slopes to be found. Or are there? According to KFOR, The Riversport McClendon Whitewater Center in Oklahoma City just opened the state’s first ski simulator over Memorial Day Weekend. Dubbed “Ski OKC”, the endless ski slope by Alpine Engineering is a moving magic carpet that can shape its angle based on the experience of the rider. Here is an explanation on the Riversports website about their new attraction:

“Ski OKC features an infinite, articulating ski slope and is located inside RIVERSPORT’s McClendon Whitewater Center. Covered in a specially-developed artificial ski grass called PoleSnow®, the low-friction fibers are misted with water to create a feeling similar to real snow. RIVERSPORT’s simulator features a quick inclination system which allows the slope to go from a Blue ski run to the equivalent of a Black run in seconds. An added ramp offers the opportunity to practice jumps and a projected ski course offers slalom practice. Advanced augmented reality capabilities ensure the experience will continue to expand as technology advances.”

The skiing simulator is not the only activity in this expansive Riversports McClendon Whitewater Center complex. Other attractions include a whitewater rafting and kayaking center, speed slides, an aerial adventure park, ziplines, Flowrider surf simulator machine, bike park, and more. If you’re visiting the Oklahoma City area, this place should be on your bucket list.
