What’s it like sending your drone into a volcano? Videographer Joey Helms found out while filming above Iceland’s newest volcano – Fagradalsfjall in the Geldingadalir Valley. Since late February, a large seismic crisis at the site has been ongoing. This is likely due to the intrusion of magma at the shallow depth of the surface. The first major explosion of Fagradalsfjall occurred on March 19th.

The drone cost $1765 dollars, so it clearly was a hefty loss for Joey. Luckily, his popular Youtube channel earns him usually a couple of thousand dollars per month, and with over a million views on the above video, he will likely be able to afford another one.
