Hanmer Springs Ski Area! The local hill shocked the New Zealand ski industry yesterday when it was the first ski area in the country to open for the season. New Zealand has had a historic start to its winter, as snowfall has been abundant, and ski areas are racing for earlier openings than usual.

Hanmer Springs Ski Area is a thirty-five-minute drive outside of  Hanmer Springs on the South Island. There are three lifts: The longest Poma in New Zealand to the top of the hill, and two rope tows. The terrain is varied: 128 acres, with the slope being 10% beginner, 60% intermediate, and 30% advanced. The elevation at the peak is 5804 feet(1769 meters) and has a vertical drop of 1017 feet(310 meters). If you are ever in New Zealand, go check this local shredders spot out.
