Been a long time coming with a ton of false starts but I’m finally starting to believe that gondola to connect the bases between Alpine and Squaw will actually get built.  Construction is set to begin this summer connecting two of Lake Tahoe’s biggest ski resorts. Denver-based Alterrra Mountain Co. said the project will cost about $60,000,000 but curiously did not announce a completion date. The ride is expected to last 16 minutes, connecting base areas that are otherwise 7 miles apart by road. The gondola will have the capacity to move 1,400 people per hour in cabins that seat up to eight passengers. Combined, both resorts have about 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. Once linked by a the base to base the will become “a single resort” which will make them the 3rd largest in North America. Crazy days.
