Fascinating brand of mountain travel originated in the Canary Islands off the coast of northwestern Africa known as “salto del pastor” translated from Spanish as “the shepherd’s leap.”  The Canary Islands is chock full of dangerous volcanic terrain. The locals tending their flocks developed this acrobatic method to negotiate the gaps, steep down slopes and ravines. Now its just a folk sport practiced by hobbyist but its incredible to see and makes me want to make a la lanza out of shower rod and vault over my couch:
