Exactly one year from the date of the avalanche that landed them in court, Colorado snowboarders Evan Hannibal and Tyler DeWitt will face trial for the incident. Evan Hannibal, 26, and Tyler DeWitt, 38, are facing jail time and $168,000 in restitution for an avalanche they triggered on March 25th above the west portal of the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnel that covered the road in avalanche debris about 400 feet wide and over 20 feet deep. If the reckless endangerment charges stick, the pair would split the restitution amount. Jail time is also on the table. The snowboarders will have a motions trial on Feb. 16, followed by a trial on March 25 and 26, 2021, for third-degree reckless endangerment. We will keep you posted with updates.
