A snowstorm is forecasted for this weekend across the interior of the Northeast as well as New England. The May snowstorm has the potential to drop a foot or more of snow in some locations.

The storm will begin on Friday when a storm system moving into the Northeast will clash with bitter cold Arctic air courtesy of the polar vortex.

Some cities that could see snow include Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton, Albany in New York; Scranton, Pennsylvania; and Burlington, Vermont.

The cold air that will produce the snowfall is forecasted to be record-shattering. Highs and lows will be 10-20 degrees below average this weekend, with that cold air stretching all the way into the Deep South.

By Saturday morning, 75 million people will wake up to temperatures below freezing. Widespread areas will see colder temperatures this weekend then they saw on Christmas Day.
