“Myself and Ross Hewitt made a first descent on the skiers left side of the Caroline Face of Mount Cook / Aoraki. We climbed to a flat spot on the east ridge and dropped in, onsight to ski this 650m face in pretty good snow!”

Very cool chronicle of a first descent down left side of the Caroline Face of Mount Cook by mountain guides Dave Searle and Ross Hewitt.  The unbridled joy in these two professional mountain guides voices when they meet up at the bottom just made my day.

“After a few stormy days stuck in the Plateau hut we managed to get out and ski a (we suspect) new 700m line on the lookers right side of the Caroline face of Aoraki / Mt Cook. Pretty ideal conditions with cold wind buffed powder provided a very powerful experience, especially as we top downed the line having climbed the backside of the east ridge to get to the top of the face. Primed for a 2nd descent.”
