The indigenous people call it Pororoca which roughly translates to “Big Roar” but surfer Serginho Laus calls it an inland surfing paradise. Serginho is one of the few that has mastered the challenges of surfing this Amazonian tidal bore, including the bouancy of fresh water, debris (sometimes entire trees) and the occasional snake or piranaha:
