Whether its delaying improvement projects on the mountain or having to push back the summer operations schedule, Utah’s long winter and frequent precipitation through May has ski resorts calling audibles to deal with the abundance of remaining snow.
Brighton Resort officials decided take advantage of the surplus snow and throw a rail jam ski event June 15. They won’t be spinning lifts but they believe it’ll still draw a crowd. The event will serve as a fundraiser for environmental stewardship non-profit Cottonwood Canyons Foundation.
KUTV spoke with Sara Huey down the road at Solitude Mountain Resort who says the snow is delaying the start of their summer season to June 21, the official start of summer (originally scheduled for June 14):
“Fortunately and unfortunately, it’s the price that we pay for having a tremendous season. 511 inches of snowfall and this is just the flip side of the coin.”
