Ten years ago today, the world lost one of the greatest skiers of all-time. Shane McConkey died on March 26, 2009 in a tragic ski BASE accident in the Dolomites.
Shane’s passing left a hole in the ski community that will never be filled. He was an inspiration to everyone who watched him slide down the side of a mountain. But Shane was so much more than just a great skier. He was a father, a husband, a friend, an innovator and one funny SOB.
From Saucer Boy to the Spatula, no one has left a bigger impact on the sport of skiing than Shane McConkey. Ten years later it’s still hard to accept the fact that he is gone.
RIP Shane. We miss you.
