Hilaree Nelson Publishes First Photo Of Jim Morrison Skiing The 'Lhotse Couloir'

They did it. Telluride’s Hilaree Nelson (*formerly O’Neill) and Tahoe’s Jim Morrison completed the first descent of the iconic ‘Lhotse Couloir’ off Mount Everest’s sister peak.

The first photos of the chute are absolutely amazing. Dream line doesn’t even begin to describe what these two were able to pull off on the world’s 4th tallest mountain. The conditions appear to be amazing, not the typical slide for life ice normally encountered above 25k.

Just a quick post to say my last post was from a while ago- right as our fated internet machine imploded. Flash forward to 3 days ago: @jimwmorrison making turns through the choke of the #Lhotsecouloir. Elevation over 27,000 feet. With Everest in the background on right side of photo. I’m still absorbing the whole last month but, without a doubt, this was one of the highlights of my 20 year ski mountaineering career. Thanks 🙏 to everyone who helped us make this happen! For sure more story to come soon! Need a beer 🍺 first 😉 @thenorthface @clifbar @msr_gear @julbo_eyewear @adventuremedicalkits @blackdiamond @timstraumabalm @nickkalisz @dutchsimpson #lhotseski2018 @scottmellin

We did it! Ski tips about to make the first turn ever off the summit of #lhotse. Almost 28’000’ the summit was sugar snow and extra steep. An few careful turns and a hop got me into the couloir to complete a dream I’ve been working towards for a lifetime. @hilareenelson and I both skied from the top to camp 2 on Sept 30th dropping in at 2:22pm This would not be possible without a deep commitment from @thenorthface whose drive to push for firsts and #neverstopexploring helped us make it happen. Truly a team effort I’m blown away by the efforts of everyone involved. Our Sherpa and film / photographers pushed incredibly hard and I’m so proud of them all. @nickkalisz @dutchsimpson @paldennamgye #ilovenepal
