Sad news out of Yosemite National Park as an 18-year old Israeli man fell to his death while taking a selfie. The young man was on an extended trip to the United States ahead of joining the Israeli military.

According to reports, 18-year old Tomer Frankfurter of Jerusalem slipped off a cliff while hiking near Nevada Fall, an impressive waterfall near the famous Half Dome.

“Frankfurter was on a two-month trip to the United States prior to joining Israel’s army, his mother told Israel’s Channel 10 news.

The ministry is coordinating the transfer of his body back to Israel for burial, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The outlet also reports that Israelis youngsters often take trips to the United States, South America or the Far East before and after 2-to 3-year service in the Israel Defense Forces.” – Fresno Bee

In any tourist destination, it’s quite common to find visitors taking selfies with cell phone cameras. In the mountains or at ski areas this can be an increasingly dangerous practice when there are cliffs and other terrain features that can cause injury.
