The cost of a lift ticket in North America jumped significantly last season to new all-time highs. Although as a whole ski resorts rarely invest in new lift systems or snow-making facilities, the prices of a lift ticket jumped by 5 percent in Canada and 6 percent in the US.

During the 2017-2018 ski season the average price of a peak-season one-day adult lift ticket in the United States was US$94. The average price for a peak-season one-day adult lift ticket in Canada was CAD$96.

This begs the question, are potential new skiers and riders being priced out of the sport?

Compared to the Alps, skiers in North America often pay twice or even three times as much as skiers do in Europe. In fact, a lift ticket in North America is often more expensive than a lift pass for an entire week in some ski resorts in the Alps.
