A 2-year-old gray wolf believed to be the offspring of the first wolf to enter California since the early 1920s was tracked Friday to the Truckee area.

The gray wolfs are now returning to California on their own by dispersal of individuals such as this wolf known as OR-54.

Her tracking collar indicated she was near the Boreal Mountain ski area, about a mile and a half from Interstate 80.

OR-54 first came to California this year on Jan. 23, entering eastern Siskiyou County. She spent 28 days in the state, traveling through Shasta, Tehama and Plumas counties, before returning to Oregon on Feb. 18. In that first trip she covered at least 506 miles.
