WATCH: European Ski Bum Doing Van-Life In Chamonix (Converted 2010 Renault Master)

When we think of ski bum van life, our minds don’t usually flash to parking lots in France but tell that Carly Van-Evelingen after a full season living in Chamonix in her freshly converted 2010 Renault Master. Carly has a BLOG she uses to document her life but if you follow her instagram you can get a great idea of the build out process:

“Firstly, she did a WHOLE Winter Season in Chamonix with temperatures plunging to -5°F (-20°C) and meters of snow. Her 480 Amp-hour battery system and high-spec solar kit kept her heating and electrics working the whole time. Amazing!

In this video, Carly explains how she converted this van on a tight time-frame with no experience! This made this project a big challenge for her.

I liked how Carly had integrated a small off-the-shelf cupboard into the kitchen unit and the chest storage to make use of some corner space.

Her van is a great example of an off-grid van – enough battery, solar and charging systems to allow her to survive a winter season in Chamonix and keeping her heater going!

I had almost forgotten that she had used my van conversion guide and I was pleasantly surprised at quite how useful she had found it! It is so cool to meet people who have used the guide to make something that I can in-turn share with the world to inspire others again!”

Lovely evening down in Calstock with @gailhooper this evening to round off a very good, but tiring weekend. Princess (hotel) prius was so good to accommodate me again as both transport and accommodation on my trip to North Wales to go and view her successor. So I suppose fairly unsurprisingly, I ended up buying myself a van!! So much excitement about moving forwards now and working on my project for the next 6 months and getting my (not so) little travelling home ready. So many things to learn and sort out, but the prospect of it has given me so much drive in all aspects of my life and I can't wait for the adventure to begin!! #vans #vanlife #vanproject #fromcardwellertovandweller #movingonupintheworld #project #motivation #renaultmaster #northwales #snowdonia #llanberis #newvan #sorryprius #youveservedmewell #cardweller #vandweller #carliving #traveling #travel #vangirls #cornwall #calstock #viaduct #sunset #lettheadventurebegin #onwardsandupwards

Van converting well underway now. After some frustration and hiccups along the way, Wires are all in and ready to go, most of the first layer of insulation is in and all the gaps not filled with wires filled with expanding foam. Also think I will be wearing said foam on my hands for the next 6 months…..note to self, wear gloves next time. Still a very long way off being anywhere close to done, but feeling good for seeing certain bits and pieces take shape! Can't wait to be done and have my little home on wheels and ticket to adventure sorted. #van #vans #vanlife #vanproject #vanconversion #camperconversion #vanproject #insulation #electric #learningnewthings #concentration #expandingfoam #madeamess #vanbuild #vanelectrics #vaninsulation #project #adventurevan #homeonwheels #stepbystep #girlswhodiy #blondegirl #diygirl #motivation #workingforit #keepgoing

So a rather productive last couple of days working on the van. My lights arrived so I tested all my electrics and guess what….they all work!! Couldn’t be happier about that. I’ve also finished my celotex insulation and filled all smaller, fillable gaps with expanding foam and managed to not kill my door mechanisms and everything in the process. And maybe most excitingly, my solar panel arrived. So she is now snugly mounted on the roof. Think I’ll be glad I went with one big panel rather than smaller ones in series as I had no idea how to connect separate panels together. Let’s hope it was the correct decision and the next steps go as well as this. #vanlife #vanlifeproject #vanproject #vanconversion #converting #camper #camperconversion #vans #vangirls #vanlifeideas #girlswithvans #vanbuild #vanity #vanlifers #vanpride #vanadventures #solar #solarpanels #solarenergy #electric #lettherebelight

So….we have progress! Finally it feels like I’m getting somewhere. Van is now almost fully lined and thank god there’s no more insulation in sight!! I had originally planned to carpet the ceiling but due to the weird and wonderful shape of my roof I decided wood would actually be easier/better. Massive thanks need to go to my dad for helping me out with this as I would have been fairly useless on my own and probably given up and cried. My lights are connected now and all working!! Yay for not drilling through them!! 😁 next step, build furniture!! So excited to finally see it taking shape!! #vans #vanlife #vanlifeproject #vangirls #vanproject #vanlifeideas #van #girlswithvans #vanconversion #building #girlswhodiy #travel #vanbuild #vanhome #vanlifediaries #work #project #motivation #travelgirl #travellife #stepbystep #gettingthereslowly

SHE’S FINALLY FINISHED!! 😁 Today I did the last few finishing touches, making curtains and fixing my blind! My gas is now working properly again and my broken door handle is fixed. There’s a few small things to change and I’m sure there always be, but after almost 3 months of hard work, the overall build, furnish and decorate is done! Massive thankyou to everyone that helped in one way or another! Now to enjoy her as intended, 2 weeks til adventure time!! 😁#van #vanlife #vanbuild #vanconversion #vanlifeproject #vans #camper #camperconversion #conversion #vanlifediaries #vanlifeideas #vanlifeuk #vanlifers #vanlifecornwall #cornwall #devon #girlswithvans #vangirls #homeonwheels #homeiswhereyouparkit #homeontheroad #adventuretime
