A 54 year old woman spent 10 days trapped in snow after taking a wrong turn on her way home from work and running out of gas in the mountains of California. Sheryl Donovan stayed the 10 days in her SUV with no cellphone service to call for help. CBS reports the woman used extra clothes in her vehicle to keep from freezing to death and survived on a single bottle of water:

“She did sparsely drink that, so she took her time on exhausting the one bottle of water that she did have. She did eat some snow.”

Donovan’s daughter said on the 10th day her mother got out of the SUV and walked a mile to find a road where she flagged someone down to help.  Her SUV was found near Camptonville, California in a remote spot in Sierra County which is quite a distance from her intended destination of Marysville.

“It would appear she took a right turn when she probably should have taken a left-hand turn.” Nevada County Sheriff Lt. Robert Bringolf

Nevada County sheriff’s deputies said Donovan’s SUV is still stuck in the snow. They hope to retrieve it today.
