A cabin from the Costebelle gondola at the French ski resort of Praloup broke from it’s cable Sunday afternoon and fell onto the slope below. Fortunately, no one was inside the cabin at the time of the incident.

Conditions at the time of the accident were clear visibility with a gentle easterly breeze.

The lift was made by Poma and is 35 years old. Each cabin holds up to 6 people.

62 people who were riding in other cars at the time were evacuated from the lift.

The slope on which the cabin fell was closed and no-one was injured by the falling cabin.

The resort released the following statement, “An incident occurred today in mid-day on the tĂ©lĂ©cabine gondola. There are no injuries. Teams of mechanical remontĂ©s are active to evacuate all the people in the cabins.”

A full investigation is underway.
