“He was a good man to people, and he was one of the greatest characters we’ve seen in the valley. We have one of every kind of person here, and that’s what makes Vail so special. He’ll be missed.” -Bart & Yeti’s owner Dennis Foley

The Vail community is in shock after losing one of its most cherished characters in 60 year old Bart & Yeti’s employee Maldwyn “Maldy” George Zang. Maldy had worked in the Bart & Yeti’s kitchen for 40 years, longer than the current owner.

According to Vail Daily at 9:03 a.m. Tuesday, a woman riding up a Lionshead Village chairlift called 911, saying she had spotted a man’s body in Gore Creek.

Zang was not dressed in ski gear when his body was recovered. He wearing  zip-up fleece over a bright blue zip-up vest, black pants and brown leather lace-up boots. His backpack was found in the creek nearby containing edition of the Vail Daily newspaper in the backpack, along with a small set of car keys and a first aid kit. The case remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to Maldy’s friends and family and the Vail community as a whole. This terribly tragic and we feel for all those in mourning.
