A Russian fishermen put the lives of two bear cubs before his own safety when he plucked the bears from Lake Vygozero in the Karelia region of Russia. The two baby wild brown bears had lost their mother while crossing the lake and were on the verge of drowning. The cubs were sinking and would have died without the quick-thinking tourists.

“They had swum [across the lake] with their mother, but she overestimated her strength and swam away,” Ruslan Lukanin told the Daily Mail. “The cubs began to sink. We picked them up and dragged them to the island to which their mother had swum.
