Did you know that if you manufacture a bear-proof cooler, trashcan, food containers ect. you can pay $500 to have it tested by grizzlies at the The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone.

The Great Falls Tribune reports bears get a full 60 minutes to try to tear into it and if they are unable to open the container or get any food out of it, it receives certification from the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee and is considered “bear-resistant.”

The protocol for the test was developed in cooperation between The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Forest Service, IGBC and the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center.

The center tests about 40-80 products a year and has a master container cracker name Kobuk. The grizzly nicknamed “The Destoyer” has a knack for bypassing bear-proof latches and locks.
