A large avalanche has killed approximately 50 people in the far eastern province of Nuristan  in Afghanistan reports Khaama Press.

According to various reports, the slide hit the village of Hafsi in the Barg-i Matal District district and a recovery effort is underway to save survivors and retrieve the dearly departed.

A spokesperson for the province’s governor recently stated that nearly the entire village was enveloped in the slide and that they are looking for more bodies. Roughly 50 bodies in the village have been found thus far and local officials are reporting more than 100 dead in the region. The slide is just one of many to hit Afghanistan and Pakistan recently after copious amounts of snow caused avalanche conditions to deteriorate rapidly.
