It’s official, for the second consecutive year Zermatt was voted the most popular ski resort in the alps reports The Local.

The mammoth resort located in central Switzerland was given the #1 ranking by a group of over 49,000 winter sports fans, who were surveyed by Mountain Management Consulting out of Innsbruck, Austria.

“Switzerland is a small, steep country, much more up and down than sideways, and is all stuck over with large brown hotels built on the cuckoo clock style of architecture.”Ernest Hemingway

Zermatt beat out Livigno in Italy along with Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis in Austria. What put Zermatt over the top was its quality piste, amazing atmosphere (who can’t beat views of the Matterhorn), and its priced-out exclusivity. All in all, Zermatt is simply one of the most mindblowing ski resorts in the world and if you’re willing to stay at a hostel and bring your own wine and dinner with you, it’s not out of reach for the everyday ski-bum.
