Sad news is coming out of the alps after a 52 year-old French national died on the Haute Route last week.

According to The Local, the fateful accident occurred after the man in question dropped a ski pole while descending the Plateau du Couloir in the Swiss territory of Bourg-St-Pierre on Wednesday. The victim, who was accompanied by a father and son, eventually attempted to retrieve the ski pole and later fell roughly 650′ to his death. Their group was in route to the Chanrion Refuge at the time of the mishap.
