The mountains surrounding the world-famous Artic Man competition have been cloaked in tragedy this month as a second snowmobiler has been killed in an area near where the event takes place.

According to the Alaska Dispatch News, 38 year-old Russel Linzner of Fairbanks, AK was killed by an avalanche while snowmobiling near Summit Lake on Monday. The accident occurred at roughly 7:45 PM and he was accompanied by other snowmobilers at the time of the incident.

Linzner was buried underneath 5-6 feet of snow when friends recovered his body the next day. The avalanche danger was marked as considerable the day before the incident. A North Pole resident and snowmobiler was killed on April 3rd in the same region.
