We are sad to report that heli-ski guide Michael Hamilton was tragically killed by an avalanche on April 25th, 2022 in the Chugach Mountains (Alaska).

Hamilton was a career guide, and the comments posted by every big name in skiing to Valdez Heli-Ski Guide’s Instagram post below should tell you all you need to know about Hamilton’s impact on the industry.

Hamilton triggered an avalanche around 6PM on April 25th while scouting a run for guests. He was carried 1,500′ down a ‘steep cliff’. He was carrying avalanche safety gear, and deployed his avalanche airbag.

Hamilton wasn’t buried by the slide, but sustained injuries that resulted in his death.

“Mike knew how to get the most out of life. He had the confidence, intelligence, and passion to create experiences in the mountains that most only dream of. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.” Tim Konrad, founder of Unofficial Networks.

Please consider donating to a GoFundMe created for Hamilton’s wife and family. You can click here, or click the embedded link below.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Hamilton’s family, friends, and coworkers at Valdez Heli-Ski Guides.
