Arapahoe Basin is taking its final steps towards expansion after the Forest Service gave their initial approval on Friday to extend operations by opening up more expert terrain on the western side of the ski area.
The area will access popular backcountry zones known as “The Beavers” and “Steep Gullies” via a new chair lift. Those areas are steep and avalanche prone, claiming 6 people in almost 35 years. The ski area hopes by expanding into the area, they will be able to provide more skiing for their clients as well as prevent avalanche fatalities once the area is properly controlled.
