After last year, White Pass Ski Area would take any precipitation. That is until the precipitation causes mudslides that close the access road and resort.
That was the case this past week after intense rain and snow fell in the Pacific Northwest. According Fox Q13, several mudslides swept over highway US 12, which caused officials to shut down the road indefinitely. After looking at the photos, the damage seems to be severe and a reopening date is yet to be announced by the Washington Department of Transportation.
Here is the WSDOT Closure Announcement: US 12 White Pass remains closed to through traffic in both directions. Eastbound closure is at milepost 138, near the junction of SR 123 and US 12, westbound closure is milepost 159, near upper Tieton Road. This is expected to be an extended closure as most of the eastbound lane has been washed away near milepost 142 and milepost 153.
However, with more snow in the forecast for Washington State, White Pass might open its lifts to some serious untracked terrain. Come on ULLR!!!
