This year, two ski resorts (not one), opened lift served skiing for the West. Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Areas started spinning their chairs today, Thursday, October 29th in the year of our lord, 2015.

That opening date beats the 2003 date as the latest opening date in 20 years for either ski resort. In 2003, Loveland Ski Area opened its slopes on October 28th. According to Loveland Marketing Director John Sellers, “the 21 inches we received over the past week helped a lot.”

He then added, “we’re working hard to get more terrain open by the weekend” but as of now what you ski is what you get.

At Loveland, crowds were fairly light for an opening Thursday while Arapahoe Basin experienced similar crowds.

This year also marked the 20th consecutive year of grabbing first chair for Breck local, Nate Dogggg.

When did Nate get in Line? “We got here Monday night,” to which he added “it’s important.” He was joined by Chad Otterstrom (3 years on first chair) and Trailer Tom (21 non-consecutive years on first chair).

As you can imagine a small, makeshift terrain park is set up at both ski hills as well as 3 trails at Loveland and only 1 trail at Arapahoe Basin.
