Elisabeth Malloy, age 43, was backcountry skiing with a companion on Saturday in Millcreek Canyon, UT (next to Big Cottonwood Canyon) when she was buried in an avalanche.

Her ski partner was able to dig her out of the snow but she was not breathing. Her partner then administered CPR and resuscitated her before calling 911. The two where then flown to University Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.

On Saturday, Utah’s Avalanche Center had listed the avalanche risk for the Wasatch mountains as “considerable” following a two-day snow storm that dumped a foot or more of fresh powder on backcountry locations.

The avalanche was one of four ski-triggered avalanches reported Saturday.
