Val Thorens has received 110cm of snow in the last week

The recent heavy snowfall in Europe is welcome news to the skiers and riders of the Alps. Widespread blizzards stacked up to 1.5 metres of fresh snow across the Alps – and there’s much more on the way. The recent dumps have been particularly kind to the French ski areas with Val Thorens recording an impressive  70cm overnight with more on the way.

Just look at all the European Ski Areas!

In France and Switzerland, it’s the best start to a ski season in 20 years, as well as one of the coldest, with snow falling this week in the French Alps down to Lake Annecy and to Geneva. Temperatures at altitude, with windchill factored in, have been as low as -25C.

Much more snow is forecast to fall in the coming days and there’s little sign of any let-up before the middle of next week, when temperatures are expected to be slightly milder. telegraph.co.uk
