An early snow storm hit Victoria and NSW Australia this weekend bringing  30cm of new snow. The early storm is allowing Perisher Resort to open the Front Valley for skiing and boarding next Saturday 2 June.

Falls Creek also picked up some early season snowfall. Here is what they had to say about it.

A freezing and blustery 36 hours has seen in excess of 35cm of snow fall across the Resort, thanks to an icy Antarctic system moving across the alps. This has seen Falls Creek transform from it’s dry, Summer setting into a white Winter wonderland!

Residents and guests could not be more excited. All across the resort snowmen and snowball fights are to be seen, plus many eager sliders strapping into their skis and boards for a few short turns in Slalom Plaza and the Village Bowl.

Even more encouraging are the conditions out in the skifields. Falls Creek’s network of mountain cams show a healthy cover of white across many of the Resort’s favourite runs to hopefully provide a sound base for further snow to accumulate. Conditions have also been positive for snowmaking and Wombats Ramble has received a healthy dose of manmade snow to bolster the natural falls along its 2km trail.

Just 2 weeks out from the Queens Birthday season opening weekend, these snowfalls are a great sign for the season ahead. As of midday Saturday (time of publication), snowfalls were consistent and predicted to continue through the day.  Minus temperatures forecast throughout the week are also hopeful to produce more snowmaking conditions and lock in the natural snow for a solid base.  Fingers are crossed that these Wintery conditions continue and produce a third year straight with opening weekend skiing at Falls – great signs for the season ahead!  www.facebook.com/fallscreekalpineresort
